The Mandate

A manufacturing company was forced to halt production after the failure of a Westinghouse PLC, from the early 1980s, with a hundred input / output (I / O)’s.
 
ElectroSolutions was mandated to find, remove, program, rewire and test a new controller in a manner that minimized downtime, despite that parts, although listed in inventory, were discontinued and that the documentation and plans were no longer up to date reflecting changes and additions of functions..

THE SOLUTION IMPLEMENTED

ElectroSolutions responded quickly by finding a compatible controller within its supplier network. While a technician traveled to Montreal to obtain it, two others removed the defective controller and identified the wiring to accelerate the reconnection, while another took charge of transcribing the software, making sure not to miss any functions, despite the lack of information on several of them.

RESULTS

• The rapid response helped to substantially limit the losses associated the stop of production
• Designs and functionality of the controller were updated to facilitate equipment maintenance
• Optimized planning of the update resulted in a lower cost of an emergency intervention.
